U. S. Postal Service History
In 1775 Benjamin Franklin was appointed first Postmaster General under the Continental Congress. Since that time the U.S. Mail has been the primary means of communications between family, friends, and busniness. Postal buildings constructed during the first half of the 20th Century many times reflected the importance of this vital role of the Post Office Department. Here are a few of these buildings I came across in my travels. Some serve differnt roles today, such as museums or community centers, but most are still active Post Office buildings.
