COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1858 COUNTY NAMED FOR: The Blanco River (Blanco is Spanish for white). COUNTY SEATS: Two - Blanco and Johnson City COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Settler James Polk Johnson. COURTHOUSES: Three - 1860 and 1885 in Blanco; 1916 in Johnson City STANDING: Two - 1885 limestone structure in Blanco, and the 1916 classical revival limestone building in Johnson City, which features Doric columns and a domed cupola. The 1885 courthouse fell into private hands after Johnson City became the county seat 1890. The old courthouse was restored in the early 1990s. LINKS: Blanco County |
