COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1856 COUNTY NAMED FOR: The Comanche Indians. COUNTY SEATS: Two - Cora and Comanche COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Miss Cora Beeman, daughter of Maj. Alonzo Beeman of Moffat, Bell County. COURTHOUSES: Four - Cora - 1856; Comanche - 1874, 1890, and 1939. STANDING: Two - The 1856 courthouse is built of logs and was originally in Cora. It now serves as a museum in front of the current courthouse in Commanche. The 1939 Moderne style courthouse is built of limestone and was a WPA project. LINKS: Comanche County |
