COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1874 COUNTY NAMED FOR: Robert E. Lee, army officer and commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War. COUNTY SEATS: One - Giddings. COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: The town is usually said to have been named for Jabez Deming Giddings, a stockholder in the railroad, though some sources state that the source of the name was Dewitt C. Giddings. COURTHOUSES: Two - 1878 and 1897 STANDING: One - 1897 Romanesque Revival courthouse built of brick. The building is similar to the Comal County Courthouse in New Braunfels.
