COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1871 COUNTY NAMED FOR: Samuel A. Maverick, land baron and legislator. COUNTY SEATS: One -Eagle Pass COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: John Twohig, land owner, surveyed and laid out a townsite, which he named Eagle Pass.
