COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1880 COUNTY NAMED FOR: Williamson Simpson Oldham, pioneer Texas lawyer and Confederate senator. COUNTY SEATS: Two - Tascosa and Vega COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Vega is Spanish for "plain" or "meadow." COURTHOUSES: Two - Tascosa 1884; Vega 1915 STANDING: Two - 1884 farmhouse style courthouse built of sandstone is now a museum on Cal Farley's Boys' Ranch.
