COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1878 COUNTY NAMED FOR: Alamo defenders Edward, James, and George Taylor. COUNTY SEATS: Two - Buffalo Gap and Abilene COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: After the Kansas cattle town of the same name. COURTHOUSES: Four - Buffalo Gap 1880; Abilene 1909, 1914, 1972 STANDING: Three - 1880 courthouse in Buffalo Gap is a museum. The 1914 Classical Revival courthouse in Abilene is built of brick with terra-cotta details. The 1972 Modern courthouse is built of concerte and pink granite. LINKS: Taylor County |
